Partnering for Climate Education: Climate Reality Project Japan × Ichigo Bloom

On July 27, we had the pleasure of facilitating a Climate Fresk workshop for the Climate Reality Project Japan (CRP Japan) team and volunteers. The session took place at Impact HUB Tokyo, as part of CRP Japan’s full-day Action Groups Meetup,  a special event to bring together members from across the country for learning, exchange, and collective inspiration.

CRP Japan is the Japanese chapter of the Climate Reality Project, the global initiative founded by Al Gore to empower people around the world to become climate leaders. In Japan, CRP supports local Action Groups working on themes such as energy, biodiversity, and climate education.

In the morning, participants experienced the Climate Fresk, an interactive workshop based on IPCC science that helps visualize the causes and consequences of climate change through a set of illustrated cards. Participants worked in teams to uncover the links between key concepts, encouraging discussion, collective intelligence, and emotional engagement.

Among the 20+ volunteers, the level of prior knowledge about climate science varied widely. The workshop created a shared learning experience that helped build a common foundation of understanding, a crucial step for any collective planning to take meaningful climate action together.

The session was facilitated by Noriko Yanagi, a member of Ichigo Bloom, with support from external facilitator Mario Nakamura. Noriko noted that despite differences in background, “everyone brought such enthusiasm and curiosity. Because they were already interested in climate change, the discussions at my tables flowed naturally and with great energy.

Here’s what a few participants had to say:

“It was so much fun! Thinking while moving the cards, discussing together as we built the picture… I’d love to try this with kids and adults alike.”

“I learned new vocabulary through the Fresk. Thank you for the great workshop!”

“The Fresk clarified the causal links behind climate change – and that felt like gaining the key to solving this crisis.”

In the afternoon, CRP Japan led a vision board session focused on imagining the world 10 years from now. Together, these two visual and collaborative activities helped spark new energy, connection, and ideas for action.

This was CRP Japan’s first encounter with the Climate Fresk, though other Climate Reality chapters abroad have already adopted the workshop as part of their activities, such as in France, where it was recently integrated into official Climate Reality training sessions.

We’re always happy to collaborate with like-minded non-profit organizations like CRP Japan. Whether for staff, volunteers, or the general public, we aim to make our workshops accessible, impactful, and tailored to each context.

Ichigo Bloom offers climate and biodiversity collaborative workshops such as the Climate Fresk and the Biodiversity Collage, to raise awareness and ignite change within organizations in Japan.
