Gender Equity Collage
A collaborative workshop for anyone who wants to understand the causes of gender inequalities and what drives change. Fully localized for Japan.

What is the Gender Equity Collage?
Using a set of illustrated cards grounded in research and real data, participants explore the full picture of gender inequality: the facts and figures, the root causes embedded in behaviors and beliefs, and the levers that organizations and individuals can pull to drive change. Unlike many DEI training formats, it is not a lecture: the Gender Equity Collage is a conversation, built from the ground up by the people in the room. The materials are fully localized for Japan, with data and examples drawn from the Japanese context.

How a session unfolds
Gender inequality rarely announces itself loudly. It shows up quietly, in data, in habits, in everyday situations most people never question. This workshop helps see it clearly, and think about what to do.
Measuring the gap
Participants explore cards covering facts and figures on gender inequality across five areas: health, finance, family and parenting, gender-based violence, and career. The data is drawn from Japanese research and statistics.
Understanding the roots
The next set of cards dives into the root causes: the behaviors, beliefs, and influence of media, education and environment that perpetuate inequality across generations.
Taking action
The final set focuses on levers for change: policies and regulations, company initiatives, and individual actions. Participants leave with a clearer sense of what they, and their organization, can do.
A few stories
From workshop to policy: gender equity at the EBC
Chiyoda, Tokyo
In February 2026, the European Business Council in Japan chose the Gender Equity Collage as the kickoff session for a new cross-committee initiative on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Bringing together participants from companies including Chanel, Crédit Agricole and Société Générale, the session provided a shared foundation for what is now an ongoing platform for EBC member companies to drive change in the Japanese business landscape. The workshop helped participants identify concrete policy recommendations on gender equality in business and the workplace in Japan.

Sessions at the world’s largest sustainability summit
Paris, France
In April 2026, the Gender Equity Collage was facilitated twice at ChangeNOW 2026, one of the world’s largest sustainability and innovation summits, held at the Grand Palais in Paris. Over three days, participants from organizations across the world engaged with the workshop in the heart of an event dedicated to systemic change. A reminder that gender equity belongs at the center of the sustainability conversation, not on the side.
A retail group puts gender inequality on the table
Vitry-sur-Seine & Saint-Etienne, France
Groupe Casino was the first French retailer to organize sessions of the Gender Equity Collage for its employees. Participants from across the group’s entities came together in two sessions, one in Saint-Étienne, one near Paris, to explore the causes and consequences of gender inequality in the workplace. Each participant left with a personal challenge card, a concrete commitment to take within three months. Read the story →

Each workshop was extremely well organized and facilitated: time to understand the concepts and data, moments for discussion, and a crucial action phase to engage teams for the long term. The feedback was extremely positive. It helped us identify company ambassadors eager to commit to diversity and inclusion.
— Marine Barbier, DEI Lead EMEA, Red Hat

Gender is a topic where personal experience varies enormously, and neutral dialogue is hard to achieve. By using cards grounded in Japanese data as a shared reference point, the workshop creates a space where people can discuss objectively, not to persuade, but to broaden perspectives.
