Internship Opportunity: Social Media & Content Creation

Part-time · Remote · Volunteer internship

We’re looking for a motivated, sustainability-curious person to help grow the online presence of three initiatives working at the intersection of climate action and community in Japan.

Who we are

Ichigo Bloom (https://ichigobloom.jp/) is a purpose-driven business running sustainability workshops for organizations across Japan. Engaging, hands-on learning experiences – not boring corporate training.

Climate Fresk Japan (https://climatefresk.org/world/) is the Japanese branch of the international Climate Fresk movement, dedicated to making one of the world’s most powerful climate education tools more visible and accessible in Japan.

Too Hot to Be Cool (https://toohottobe.cool/) is a volunteer-run non-profit organizing rock events in Tokyo to raise funds and awareness for climate action. The next editions are a music beach festival (August, Kamakura) and a women-led bands festival (November, Tokyo).

Three very different formats, one common thread: making sustainability meaningful and engaging for people in Japan.

What you’ll do

As our Social Media & Content Intern, you’ll work across all three initiatives to create content, grow audiences, and help each initiative show up consistently and authentically online.

For Ichigo Bloom: Help build a stronger presence on LinkedIn and Instagram by posting regularly, not just about our workshops, but sustainability content that people genuinely enjoy and learn from. The goal is to grow a Japan-based audience that sees Ichigo Bloom as a trusted voice on sustainability, not just a service provider. We’re also open to exploring additional platforms if you think they’d help. Concretely, this could include:

  • Creating educational content that makes sustainability tangible – key figures, facts, visual explainers
  • Promoting our workshops to broader audiences in ways that feel engaging, not salesy

For Too Hot to Be Cool: Help us break into Japanese music and sustainability communities, specifically audiences who don’t necessarily engage with international content or English-language media. This is our main growth challenge: we’ve built great connections with internationally-minded people, but we need to reach further into local Japanese communities to increase our impact. Concretely, this could include:

  • Creating social media content adapted for a Japanese audience
  • Develop bilingual content for THTBC website, including blog articles on NPOs we supported, interviews of past performers and other related stories.

For Climate Fresk Japan: Raise the profile of the Climate Fresk workshop in Japan, both with the general public and within professional and corporate communities. Similar to Ichigo Bloom, consistent and engaging content matters more than high production value. Concretely, this could include:

  • Reviewing and improving the overall social media strategy across platforms
  • Creating new content regularly to keep accounts active and attractive to new audiences

Across all three, you’ll be adapting content and strategies to each initiative’s tone, platforms, and audience.

What we’re looking for

  • Genuine interest in sustainability, climate action, or social impact. You don’t need to be an expert, but you need to truly care.
  • Experience or strong interest in social media content creation – across formats (text, image, video) and platforms
  • Ability to communicate in English (our internal coordination is in English)
  • Japanese language skills and deep familiarity with Japanese social media culture are a big plus – if we had to choose, this matters more to us than English content skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely and asynchronously with collaborative tools (Slack, Google Workspace, Asana)
  • You can be based anywhere – Japan or abroad, we’re fully remote

No prior professional experience required. Curiosity, reliability, and genuine care for what we’re building matter more.

Our approach to AI

We value human creativity, and we’re conscious of the environmental and ethical impacts of AI. That said, we’re not anti-AI by principle. We used it to polish the writing for this internship offer, for instance. Using AI responsibly to assist with writing or handle tasks with limited creative scope (like translations) is fine, however we refuse AI-generated images or videos.

What you’ll get

  • Real, hands-on experience managing social media for both a commercial and non-profit initiatives at the same time
  • A window into Japan’s sustainability and climate communities
  • Exposure to internationally recognized programs like Climate Fresk and Digital Collage, and potentially eased access to facilitator training
  • The satisfaction of contributing to community-driven initiatives that are actually trying to change things – not just talk about it

Logistics

  • Commitment: At least 5 hours/week
  • Duration: Minimum 3-4 months
  • Location: Fully remote, anywhere in the world.  Candidates based in Japan are especially welcom, as it means you can actually attend our events! Please note that we are currently not in a position to assist with visa matters.
  • Compensation: Unpaid volunteer internship
  • Start: As soon as possible – we’re actively looking

You’ll be working with:

  • Stéfan Le Dû – Ichigo Bloom founder, THTBC director, Climate Fresk Japan co-coordinator
  • Minami Shinohara – Climate Fresk Japan co-coordinator, Ichigo Bloom member
  • Kaori Nemoto – THTBC Japanese outreach lead, Ichigo Bloom member
  • And other members of the Ichigo Bloom collective, Climate Fresk Japan community, and Too Hot to Be Cool crew!

How to apply

Send an email to stefan@studioichigo.jp with:

  • A brief self-introduction in English or Japanese (no need for both – use whatever feels most natural to you)
  • A few examples of social media content you’ve created – personal or professional, both are fine. Ideally a mix of platforms and formats (image, text, video), and in English and/or Japanese

We review applications on a rolling basis and will keep this open until we find the right fit.
